Gardner Museum

Way back when we started
There was a part of me that knew...

One day there'd be heartache
And I would lose myself to you...

{After All - Michael Buble}

I hadn't been to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in years and enjoyed some time there on Sunday.

Such a retreat from the city outside. You really do feel as though you've been transported from Boston to a Venetian palace.

I think my favorite part of the space is the contrast between the light and airy courtyard and the dark galleries that surround it. You wonder from room to room, taking in the art, with hints of lushness and light peeking in from the center.

Amazing to know one woman is responsible for bringing this to our fair city so many years ago.

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 38

The Good:
3 weeks until the half-marathon! This past weekend I did my longest run of this training and since the half last year actually! A nice dry run (oh that's a good one after last year's sopping wet race). I am feeling so great about how the race will shape up and am looking forward to tapering and the big day!

The Random:
I was over at the Jamaica Pond the other day and saw this random coconut...with a straw...no idea where it came from but it made me chuckle!

The Fun:
Third grade is off to a great start so far! They are such a sweet and motivated group and I can't wait to tuck into the meat of our learning!

Curried Split Peas and Cauliflower Curry

There is something about the aroma of curry spices as they heat up. One of the reasons I love this easy to throw together and very healthy curry is because the aroma is produces as it cooks.
Turmeric and curry powder are the stars of this along with a cauliflower. The spices give the dish a golden hue that is complemented by the peas and pepper.
This dish is a winner all year round and makes enough for a family meal or dinner for a few nights.
I like top mine with raisins and cashews, but you can serve it with rice or serve it alone. But! Serve and enjoy!

Hammond Castle

Thank you for the castle...
Made of stone let us call our own...

{Castle Man -- Adam Lambert}

A few weeks back I finally made my way north to explore Hammond Castle. The castle was built in Gloucester, overlooking the water, by John Hammond in the 1920s (as a wedding present for his wife!).

The castle was used both as Hammond's home and a way for him to display his vast collection of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance artifacts. He also worked as a researcher and scientist there (and is known to have many patents to his name).

The castle is amazing. Breathtaking views, amazing architecture, gorgeous artifacts. A little slice of history up on the North Shore. I can only imagine what it took to construct the castle nearly 100 years ago and what it would be like to have that view as my backyard!
